AMSTERDAM—The European and Americas Committees for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS/ACTRIMS) opened its Fifth Triennial Joint Meeting in Amsterdam on October 19, 2011. According to meeting organizers, the 2011 meeting is the largest ever in their history. Total participants are estimated at 7,743, with attendees representing 95 countries around the world. The United States, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Spain lead the list of countries represented. The success of the 2011 meeting, organizers say, is due to the current vitality of MS research and the allure of Amsterdam, their 2011 meeting site.
Nearly 1,400 abstracts were submitted for presentation this year. Of these, 69 oral presentations were accepted, 977 poster presentations were accepted, and 350 submitted abstracts were rejected.
